MISSION: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis believes that every young person deserves to live a life filled with hope and opportunity. Because we care about our young people, we provide a safe, educational and positive atmosphere where they can prosper and reach their full potential. SUMMARY: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis (BGCI) is one of the oldest human service organizations in Indianapolis. Since 1893, BGCI has been a partner with families to ensure that thousands of area youth from age 5 to 18 are guided and supported to reach their fullest potential in life. BGCI provides afterschool and summer programming throughout underrepresented Indianapolis neighborhoods. In fact, we are one of the only youth service organizations in Indianapolis that is still embedded within the inner city, able to directly help those in need within their own neighborhoods.

About This Cause

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis (BGCI) is one of the oldest human service organizations in Indianapolis. Since 1893, BGCI has been a partner with families to ensure that thousands of area youth from age 5 to 18 are guided and supported to reach their fullest potential in life. BGCI provides afterschool and summer programming throughout underrepresented Indianapolis neighborhoods. In fact, we are one of the only youth service organizations in Indianapolis that is still embedded within the inner city, able to directly help those in need within their own neighborhoods. In 2017, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis (BGCI) served more than 6,700 youth in our 11 Clubs located throughout the city. Since 2017 alone, BGCI has served over 300,000 meals and snacks to Club youth and their families. Our five facility-based and five school-based Clubs serve some of the most at-risk communities in Marion County. Club Locations:  Keenan-Stahl Club at 1949 E. Troy Avenue on the Southeast side  LeGore Club at 5228 West Minnesota Street on the Westside  Lilly Club at 801 S State Avenue in Fountain Square  Wheeler-Dowe Club at 2310 E. 30th Street in Martindale-Brightwood  Finish Line at 3870 N. Post Rd.  Raymond Park Middle School at 2033 Sugar Grove Ave.  Jonathon Jennings at IPS #109 elementary school near 38th and High School Road  Liberty Park at Warren Township Elementary School near Raymond and Franklin  Global Prep Riverside at IPS #44 elementary school near 16th and Riverside  Pleasant Run at Pleasant Run Elementary at 1800 N. Franklin Rd. Current demographics of Club members include: • 57% African American, 18% Caucasian, 12% Hispanic, 13% Multi-Racial or Other • 34% ages 5-8, 43% ages 9-12, and 23% ages 13-18 • 54% of youth are male and 46% female • 81% of members qualify for free or reduced school lunches - as many as 100% at some Clubs • 52% are from single parent homes In addition to providing a fun and safe place for children to go after school and during the summer, we provide programming in a number of Core Areas. In each of our Core Areas, there are multiple program options for our youth to participate in. Core Program Areas: * Character & Leadership Development * Education & Career Development * Health & Life Skills * The Arts * Sports, Fitness and Recreation Character & Leadership Development  Youth of the Year: A youth recognition program for Club members. The program promotes and celebrates service to Club, community and family; academic performance; moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability.  Keystone Club: A chartered leadership and service Club for boys and girls ages 14-18. Keystoners elect officers and implement activities in six areas: service to Club and community, character and leadership development, education and career exploration, unity, free enterprise and social recreation.  Torch Club: A chartered small-group leadership and service club for boys and girls ages 11-13. The Torch Club is a powerful vehicle through which Club staff can help meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their development. Torch Club members learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness, and social recreation. Education & Career Development  Power Hour: A comprehensive homework help and tutoring program  Goals for Graduation: A program that introduces academic goal setting by linking Club members’ future aspirations with concrete actions today  Career Launch: Encourages Club members to assess their skills and interests, explore careers, make sound educational decisions and prepare to join the workforce  Skill Tech: A program that helps to develop Club members’ proficiency in computer software  Money Matters: Promotes financial responsibility and independence  Graduate for Más: Provides counselors to improve graduation rates Health & Life Skills  SMART Moves (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training): A comprehensive prevention program that teaches Club members to resist alcohol, tobacco, drugs, bullying, and premature sexual activity. Various age-specific modules are implemented and include SMART Kids, Start SMART, Stay SMART, SMART Girls, and Passport to Manhood.  Healthy Habits: A program that provides age-appropriate information and ideas for members to improve their eating habits and gain a sense of control over their health. The program teaches Club members how to choose a healthy diet and portion sizes, prepare healthy meals and snacks, establish regular physical activity and practice good oral hygiene. The Arts  National Fine Arts Exhibit Program: Encourages artistic expression among Club members through drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, mixed media, and sculpture  Image Makers National Photography Program: Encourages Club members to learn and practice various forms of photography  Field Trips & Guest Speakers: Club members experience field trips to museums and theatre productions as well as guest speakers who visit the Clubs to share a skill or lead an activity Sports, Fitness, and Recreation  Basketball Leagues: Promote good sportsmanship and the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the game  Triple PLAY: Focuses Club members on activities that support the mind, body, and spirit. Triple Play Daily Challenges promote skills in a fun, noncompetitive yet challenging environment through activities that give participants the opportunity to learn new movements and skills and help improve their speed, strength and agility. There are a number of different Daily Challenges a few of which include Basketball, Jump Rope, Invent-a-Sport, Home Run, Get Fit, and Walk/Run. Each challenge is designed to increase the amount of time members participate in physical activities. Challenges are age-appropriate and offered daily at the Clubs.  Gamesroom: A place where kids can play board and table games, compete in a tournament, or learn a new activity with friends. The room is filled with pool tables, air hockey, Ping-Pong, and a variety of other games.  Aquatic Program: Offers our Club members the opportunity to learn to swim as well as enjoy fitness activities in an indoor pool (at two of our Club facilities).
