Mission Statement
As the Tri-State area's oldest (since 1917) and largest social service organization of its kind, the Evansville Rescue Mission reaches out to those often overlooked in society--the homeless (who are least eighteen years-old), troubled teenagers, disadvantaged youth and impoverished families, living at or below the federal poverty line by providing for their basic needs.
About This Cause
The Tri-State associates the Evansville Rescue Mission as the oldest and largest homeless shelter for men. Here, at our Residence Center (with a 202 shelter bed capacity), homeless men (who are at least eighteen years-old) find safe shelter each and every night (nearly 50,000 nights of lodging provided each year), take a shower, procure any needed personal identification items or federal benefits (such as SSI or SSDI), and voluntarily enroll in ERM’s long-term residential program, named P.A.C.E.S. Meanwhile, the general public enjoys a hot, nourishing meal three times a day, each and every day, including holidays. Nearly 190,000 meals are served annually to the general public through ERM's multiple operating divisions. ERM operates five other ministry divisions (including a new Donation Center for non-food donations) located throughout Vanderburgh County, Indiana. Boys and girls (nearly 1,000) are safely detained within our juvenile detention center, the Youth Care Center. Additionally, less fortunate families, living at or below the federal poverty line, enjoy free summer camping opportunities for their children at ERM’s campground, Camp Reveal, deeply discounted clothing/furniture items at either of ERM’s two thrift stores, and take home a free Thanksgiving food basket at our annual Gobbler Gathering (Thanksgiving food basket giveaway) the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
