Mission Statement
We envision a community where every child is supported in and outside the classroom, every family has their basic needs met, and every person leads a stable successful life.
About This Cause
What we aim to solve. Many families have been left behind by today’s economy and are only one paycheck away from financial setback. 24 percent of families in Bartholomew County work full-time yet struggle to make ends meet. (Alice Report 2018). They are often overwhelmed by their situation and don’t know how to improve it. Children are often a casualty in this scenario. When families struggle financially – children struggle. The data is clear, children that grow-up in poverty at are a tremendous disadvantage on virtually every measure of well-being compared to their middle class peers. A particularly troubling metric is that children raised in poverty struggle to attain academically throughout school. This all too often results in limited job options as adults and frequently perpetuates the generational cycle of poverty into which the children were born. The United Way of Bartholomew brings our community to come together to create economic opportunity for disadvantaged families. Our Programs United Way of Bartholomew County (UWBC) leads a community-wide initiative focused on the adage: give a person a fish and they will eat for a day; teach a person to fish and they will eat for a lifetime. UWBC works hand and hand with over 20 community partners to create opportunities for families to thrive. Programming is holistic and designed to create lasting change for families by focusing on youth development, financial stability, and health - the building blocks of a thriving family.
