About This Cause

The Indiana Blind Children’s Foundation (IBCF) was established to capitalize on the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired’ s (ISBVI) distinctive reach and leadership, and to further support the impact on student’s intellectual, social and emotional lives through programs at the School. Although distinct and separate organizations, the Foundation and the School maintain a close partnership. The Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ISBVI) is the primary provider of educational services to blind and visually impaired youth from birth to age 22 throughout the state of Indiana. Over the past 170 years, ISBVI has developed substantial and unique expertise regarding the education of students that are blind or visually impaired and is frequently recognized nationally by peer schools for its best practices and leadership in the field. ISBVI serves approximately 150 students through the residential or day program, and an additional 300 youth are served through the School’s outreach services across Indiana. ISBVI is contracted by 28 school districts to provide vision services and resources. IBCF was founded in 1993 by parents of students at the Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired as well as staff members of the School as a separate 501©3 philanthropic arm to ISBVI to raise additional funding for the needs of approximately 450 children impacted by the School each year. Over the past 25 years IBCF has supported numerous programs, brought in a variety of partnerships and provided necessary resources and tools for children reached by ISBVI. These programs have included support of the Arts and Music programs, the annual Braille Challenge focused on strengthening Braille literacy, building a 3D Print Lab, upgrading and building the library and natatorium, and providing access technology for student and classroom use.
