Mission Statement

Simon Youth Foundation (SYF) exists to help youth - who are at risk of dropping out of high school - graduate, develop life skills, and pursue post-secondary education and career paths.

About This Cause

The Foundation supports 33 alternative education academies in partnership with 26 public school districts in 12 states. Simon Youth Academies, located primarily in Simon malls, are alternative high schools where students who may be facing obstacles to graduations -- including but not limited to, homeless, health problems, parenthood, poverty, or otherwise unable to manage a traditional classroom experience -- can work toward their high school diplomas in a flexible, non-traditional environment, with a specific individualized plan. Since 1998, SYF academies have graduated nearly 28,000 students who were at-risk of dropping out and maintained an average of a 93% cumulative graduation rate. Furthermore, Simon Youth Scholarships support the academic endeavors of high school graduates throughout the nation and are awarded to academy graduates and students in every community that is home to a Simon property. Since 2000, more than $21.1 million in scholarships have been awarded to not only pursue 2 and 4 year degrees, but also technical/vocational training programs.
