About This Cause
Driven by its mission to serve those in crisis and to prevent homelessness and hunger, the purpose of Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service is to protect families, especially children, senior citizens, and disabled individuals from the despair, hopelessness, and social injustice caused by poverty. Founded in 1981 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2003, the Care Service serves the most vulnerable families and individuals in St. Charles, Lincoln, and Warren counties. Accredited by the Council on Accreditation since 2011, the Care Service follows best practice standards to address the individual needs of each family in crisis through its integrated programs and services. Programs include the following: Housing Assistance—this program provides families with financial housing assistance, and integrated support services designed to facilitate long-term sustainability. Financial assistance is provided in the form of: ~Emergency/Transitional/Permanent Housing Assistance ~Rent/Mortgage Assistance (prevention of eviction/foreclosure) ~Utility Assistance (shut off or disconnect) Children and Family Development (CFD)—this program provides families with children who are homeless or are at-risk of becoming homeless with comprehensive case management with a goal of providing stabilization and systemic change in their lives. Street Outreach—In partnership with SSM Health Center-St. Joseph, the program is designed to assist literally homeless individuals and families with basic survival and emergency needs while determining physical/mental health issues, with the ultimate goal of permanent housing placement. Food Pantry— The Client Choice Pantry distributes food to low-income families and individuals, as well as much-needed hygiene items which cannot be purchased with food stamps. Adopt-A-Family—this program represents a continuation of integrated services into the holiday season. Families are provided with much-needed food and holiday gifts through this program.
