Mission Statement

Oregon Dog Rescue shall bring dogs into our program that are homeless or abandoned through animal shelters, other rescues or owners who can no longer take care of their dogs. All dogs are evaluated for behavior and health issues. All dogs are spayed or neutered, all shots are updated and the dogs are wormed and flea treated. The dogs stay in our care until they are adopted. Any necessary medical treatment is started as soon as possible. At Oregon Dog Rescue we work on behavior modification and basic training to improve the dog’s chances for adoption and insure a successful lifelong home. We check back with all our adopters and all dogs must be returned to Oregon Dog Rescue if the adoption does not work out or if the dog cannot be taken care of by the owner.

About This Cause

Oregon Dog Rescue was founded in 2007 by two women working out of their homes. All dogs coming into the program are given all medical attention they need as well as help with behavior issues to insure they find a good home. All medical needs and behavioral notes are passed on to the new family to insure a good match. We never shy away from being blunt about the issues the dog has. It is best that the adopter knows everything we have experienced with the dog. Our dogs are in playrooms during the day and get to go on at least one walk a day (sometimes more!) with a volunteer. We feel this environment gives us a better understanding of how the dog will navigate in the real world. All adopters must fill out an application. Any incompatibilities we see on the application must be cleared before adoption. All family members must be present for the adoption including any dogs in the family (all dogs must be spayed and neutered). If the adopter rents, we require landlord approval. We do not adopt adult dogs to families with kids under 5 unless we have a good history of the dog living with children this age. Puppies are sometimes available and my be a better match for families with kids under 5. When the adoption is complete we are here for the life of the dog for any advice the owner may have. If, for some reason, the dog does not work out, we always take our dogs back to rehome to a more compatible home. We strive to do all we can for every dog who comes into our program and we try to make the adoption processes easy and fair to adopters as well.
