Mission Statement
Oregon Dog Rescue shall bring dogs into our program that are homeless or abandoned through animal shelters, other rescues or owners who can no longer take care of their dogs. All dogs are evaluated for behavior and health issues. All dogs are spayed or neutered, all shots are updated and the dogs are wormed and flea treated. The dogs stay in our care until they are adopted. Any necessary medical treatment is started as soon as possible. At Oregon Dog Rescue we work on behavior modification and basic training to improve the dog’s chances for adoption and insure a successful lifelong home. We check back with all our adopters and all dogs must be returned to Oregon Dog Rescue if the adoption does not work out or if the dog cannot be taken care of by the owner.
About This Cause
Oregon Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded in 2007 by two women who, at the time, had 12 years of rescue experience. Located in Portland, Oregon, our no-kill shelter is able to house up to 125 dogs at a time. Dogs stay at the facility and also have access to wonderful foster homes until adopted into their forever homes. Dogs come from overcrowded local shelters, owners who can no longer keep their dogs (following an evaluation), and from at-risk, overcrowded shelters along the West Coast. While at Oregon Dog Rescue, the pups spend their days in playrooms, where they can socialize with each other and interact with staff and volunteers. The dogs are spayed or neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, de-wormed, and flea-treated. Staff members evaluate our residents to see which type of family would be best-suited for each dog. We are devoted to placing animals with the best match to assure the long-term success of each adoption. Since our first adoption, we have helped over 18,000 pups find their forever homes!
