Mission Statement

More Art supports artists working with communities, and the advocacy organizations that represent them, to create public art projects and educational programs that address social and cultural issues affecting the lives of New Yorkers today.

About This Cause

About More Art Programs: PUBLIC ART Since 2004, More Art has worked with some of the world’s most celebrated artists including Joan Jonas, Pablo Helguera, Dread Scott, Krzysztof Wodiczko, Ernesto Pujol, Andres Serrano, and Fred Wilson, to produce a wide range of artworks in public spaces that reflect the concerns and challenges of various NYC communities. More Art believes that art empowers us all. Our art installations are thought-provoking, free and open to everyone, and amplify the perspectives of all New Yorkers in order to speak truth to power about social and political issues affecting their lives. ENGAGING ARTISTS FELLOWSHIP Since 2014, the yearly twelve-month Fellowship provides an infrastructure and laboratory for eight NYC-based emerging and underrepresented artists (or collectives) to gain a deeper understanding of the history of the field of public art, incubate and develop their early-stage research and project, collaborate with communities in shaping society, and build sustainable careers. ENGAGING ARTISTS RESIDENCY The yearly Residency provides an opportunity for one NYC-based early career and underrepresented artist (or collective) to gain a deeper understanding of the history of the field of public art, and is focused on the incubation and commissioning of a public art project. The Residency is a minimum of nine months and carries an award to fully realize the project. AT THE TABLE: DIALOGUE + ART More Art has been hosting At the Table: Dialogue + Art—intimate, salon-style conversations—with our community since 2019. Intended to be a platform for thought-provoking dialogue, these salons provide an opportunity to generate thoughtful intersectional conversation. Our hope for each gathering is that our guests leave feeling emboldened and valued as an integral part of the More Art family. COMMUNITY ART CONNECTIONS In conjunction with More Art’s public art commissions, adults of all ages are invited to engage with teaching artists to learn more about social justice topics via discussions and hands-on workshops, including storytelling, film studies, and writing for English language learners.
