Mission Statement
Siskiyou Violins enables talented young students to pursue their passion for violin through inspired teaching, high expectations, self-discipline, and appreciative recognition. We provide opportunities to perform in concerts in Southern Oregon and beyond, and in competitive festivals globally. We seek opportunities to perform in school settings to inspire and motivate students and parents into engaging in musical training. We encourage public investments in school-based music and arts education for all students. We support other music and arts groups in Southern Oregon.
About This Cause
Siskiyou Violins serves a broad community in Southern Oregon extending from city (Ashland, Medford, etc) to rural areas. Our members are children (ranging in ages from 5 to 23) from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, and many of them rely on scholarship funding from our organization to support their membership and their private violins lessons. We provide an environment for young violinists to receive and share the gift of music. They learn timeless, beautiful compositions of various genres. They have had the thrill of playing on the Carnegie Hall stage and in New York City's Central Park in the past, as well as on a Disney stage and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Green Show. In addition to stage performances for audiences from the broader community, we perform at local retirement homes, to their delight as well as ours. When we play at our local children's festival, other youngsters are inspired to start violin lessons so they too might join Siskiyou Violins or their school orchestra. Our musicians learn how to work hard practicing; they learn that hard work brings the reward of a polished and appreciated performance.
