Mission Statement

Building better lives for children and families impacted by poverty, violence and injustice.

About This Cause

Founded by Lucy Rider Meyer, one of the early creators of the settlement house movement, Kids Above All was created to shelter and educate orphans of immigrant families, most of whom had been living in poverty in the city of Chicago. Today, our Board, dedicated staff, volunteers and foster parents are proud to continue that vision, putting kids and their families first by serving more than 4,079 children and their families each year. This is accomplished through partnerships and collaborations with other organizations to ensure a continuum of prevention, intervention, and education programs for children 0 to 21 years old and their families in metro Chicago communities of need. We serve Cook, DuPage, Kane and Lake counties. These include a Chicago location that focuses on foster care, early childhood education and family counseling, and group homes in Naperville, Downers Grove, and Lisle that house previously abused or neglected children. Our services keep kids safe and educated, and make families stronger. They include: • foster care and adoption • group homes • family child care • early childhood education • trauma-informed counseling • home visiting • doula services • housing and supports for formerly homeless young adults • violence prevention
