Mission Statement

Chicago Youth Centers’ mission is to invest in youth in under-served communities to help them discover and realize their full potential.

About This Cause

Chicago Youth Centers (CYC) was founded in 1956 by two Chicago businessmen, Elliott Donnelley and Sidney Epstein, who believed every child deserved the opportunity to succeed. Since then, CYC has operated in some of Chicago’s most divested communities, providing children and families with access to comprehensive Early Learning, Out-of-School Time Enrichment, and Family Engagement programs. We engage youth from 18 months to 18 years, supporting each child’s holistic development by offering the experiences, tools, and resources needed for youth to persist academically and develop emotionally. Last year, we served 1,500 youth and 700 families through our critical programs. 96% of families served live below the Federal Poverty Line and 98% are people of color.   CYC Centers are located in Bridgeport, Humboldt Park, North Lawndale, Riverdale, and South Shore. We currently partner with schools in Auburn Gresham, Douglas, Greater Grand Crossing, Hyde Park, and are continuing to expand our reach by partnering with additional schools. CYC’s best-in-class programs offer a variety of learning avenues such as academic enrichment, health and wellness, and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics), all of which incorporate social-emotional learning and real-life problem solving to prepare youth for the jobs of tomorrow.
