Mission Statement
Responding to the Gospel, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) brings healing, justice, and wholeness to people and communities.
About This Cause
Serving Illinois since 1867, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is a nonprofit social service organization of the three Illinois synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). LSSI is one of the largest statewide social service providers, serving 43,000 people last year. The demographics of clients served by LSSI generally reflect those of Illinois’ population, with one important exception - 97% of households served by LSSI last year reported annual incomes of under $25,000. LSSI provides critical programs that include: foster care; mental health services; alcohol and drug treatment; senior services; residential programs for the developmentally disabled; and programs that help formerly incarcerated individuals integrate back into society. Services are provided regardless of race, gender, age, ability to pay, or religious affiliation.
