Mission Statement

Since 1959, Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly, Chicago Chapter’s mission, philosophy, programs and activities remain focused on alleviating loneliness and isolation among older adults. Social interaction is critical to the human spirit — we believe that nurturing the soul is as important as feeding the body.

About This Cause

For 65 years, Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) has reached out to older adults in the Chicago area who are isolated and alone. Little Brothers volunteers and staff provide year-round companionship, friendship, programs, events, activities and services to Chicago seniors aging without friends or family – always at no cost to our elders. We believe that no one plans to grow old alone—it just happens. Spouses pass away, friendships drift or children move to other states. Seniors who stop driving often lose their independence and then their social ties - as visits to friends, weekly worship services, or social gatherings become a thing of the past. Our programs include regular monthly visits, luncheons to celebrate birthdays, food bag assistance for those in need, and parties throughout the year which offer opportunities to engage in conversation and build new friendships. Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly does not accept government funds, we rely on monetary and in-kind contributions from individuals, businesses and corporations.
