Mission Statement

Casa Central transforms lives and strengthens communities, with a special focus on Hispanics. Our network of services propels a diverse population of all ages toward self-sufficiency and a higher quality of life.

About This Cause

Casa Central was established in 1954 to address the needs of Chicago’s growing Hispanic population. Now the largest Hispanic social service agency in the Midwest, Casa Central works out of two primary communities: Humboldt Park on the northwest side and Archer Heights on the southwest side. Services reach nearly 20,000 individuals each year in pursuit of our mission, to “transform lives and strengthen communities with a special focus on Hispanics. Our network of social services propels a diverse population of all ages toward self-sufficiency and a higher quality of life.” Fourteen bilingual, bicultural programs address the root causes of problems facing low-income individuals and families from throughout the city of Chicago, and are focused in three areas: Inspiring Lifelong Learning among Children and Youth: Home- and center-based Head Start programs provide early childhood development for children ages 2-5. Two out-of-school time programs serve children, youth, and young adults ages 5-25 with literacy education, college and career preparation, and adolescent parenting support. Providing Safety and Fostering Self-Reliance for Individuals and Families: The Violence Prevention and Intervention program provides counseling services for victims of domestic violence, and Intact Family Services helps strengthen and preserve the family structure. Homeless families receive apartment-style housing and support through La Posada, the interim housing program. The Employment Training Program builds the skills needed to gain employment, and offers courses to become a Certified Nursing Assistant or Home Care Aide and ESL classes. Promoting Active, Healthy Lifestyles for Seniors: The site-based Adult Wellness Center provides seniors with social and fitness activities, and field trips, and Home Care Aides in the Home Care Services program provide home-bound seniors with assistance in completing daily activities. Casa Central has been recognized for fourteen consecutive years by Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the top 25 Hispanic non-profit agencies in the nation. In September 2012, the agency was presented with the distinctive Dr. Jorge S. Prieto Sr. Humanitarian Award, recognizing its work in fostering communication between other cultures and the Hispanic community. Additionally, Casa Central has maintained agency-wide accreditation from the Council on Accreditation (COA) since 2000, most recently being reaccredited in 2012. COA’s thorough review process affirms the agency as evidence-based and following best practice principles for program design and evaluation.
