Mission Statement

Sarah’s Circle provides a full continuum of services for women, including housing, life necessities, and supportive services, to help them permanently end their homelessness.

About This Cause

Since 1979 Sarah's Circle has been helping women meet their basic needs while ending their homelessness. Sarah's Circle offers the following programs to single, unaccompanied women: -Daytime Support Center: Monday through Friday women experiencing homelessness are welcome to come for 2 meals/day, a safe place to relax out of the elements, showers, laundry facilities, a computer lab, groups/activities, and access to a case manager to help them find housing. -Interim Housing Program: This 50 bed shelter helps women with a safe place to stay, 3 meals/day, showers, laundry facilities, a computer lab, groups/activities, and a case manager. Women can remain in this program until this find more stable housing to exit to. -Rapid Rehousing Program: This program offers case management and a short-term rental subsidy to help women get back on their feet and into stable housing. -Permanent Supportive Housing: The agency offers 181 units of housing for women who have been homeless, many chronically homeless (homeless for a least year and experiencing a disability). Each woman works with a case manager to help her maintain her apartment, improve/maintain her health, and maintain/increase her income. For long-term success, housing must come first. That's why Sarah's Circle focuses on strategic and individualized plans for each woman, guided by her personal goals. Once housing stability is achieved, we can ensure each woman has the supportive services that she needs for long-term success. Because finding appropriate housing can take some time, Sarah's Circle helps women meet their basic needs during their search. The women we serve are extremely vulnerable, having experienced a wide array of challenges such as: domestic violence, mental health conditions, substance use disorders, serious physical illness, chronic health conditions, incarceration, chronic poverty, and of course, homelessness. Here are a few more facts about the women we served last year (2023): 100% face a shortage of affordable housing 88% were women of color 49% had no income 40% were 55 and older 41% report experiencing a severe mental health condition Despite these challenges, the women we serve show great resilience and determination, fueling Sarah's Circle's motivation to end homelessness for women in Chicago. Chicago is experiencing an extreme shortage in affordable housing and this lack of affordable housing is the primary cause of homelessness. Sarah's Circle is working to develop additional housing so we can expand the number of women we help with this essential service.
