Mission Statement

The Advocates for Human Rights is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting human rights. Through cutting-edge research, education, and advocacy, The Advocates saves lives, fights injustice, restores peace, and builds the human rights movement in the United States and around the world.

About This Cause

For more than 30 years, our innovative programming has changed the lives of refugees and immigrants, women, ethnic and religious minorities, children, and other marginalized communities. We investigate and expose human rights violations, represent immigrants and refugees seeking asylum, train and assist groups that protect human rights, engage the public, policy-makers, and children; and push for legal reform and advocate for sound policy. An independent, nonpartisan non-profit organization founded in 1983, The Advocates relies on support from a powerhouse of partners and volunteers. Our volunteers want to make a difference, and their work at The Advocates is significant to each of them. Our volunteers motivate us to continue to strive—and we do the same for them.
