About This Cause

Between Friends is a nonprofit agency dedicated to breaking the cycle of domestic violence and building a community free of abuse. The organization was established in 1986 as a grant-making organization, but the founders quickly recognized the critical need for more services for victims of domestic violence in the Chicagoland area. In 1991, they created Illinois’ first 24-hour crisis line (1-800-603-HELP). To break the cycle of domestic violence, the agency offers crisis intervention and support services for child, teen, and adult survivors that include a 24-hour crisis line, court advocacy, and counseling. To build a community free of abuse, Between Friends provides comprehensive and evidence-based prevention and education programs for youth and adults. Over the past 32 years, Between Friends has grown to touch the lives of more than 9,000 youth, adults and families through our comprehensive counseling and support services and prevention and education programming every year.
