Mission Statement

Will County Habitat for Humanity brings people together to provide homes, communities and hope, in hopes of providing everyone a decent place to live.

About This Cause

Will County Habitat for Humanity brings quality, affordable housing to Will County, Illinois, one of Chicago’s Southwestern Suburbs, with areas of low-income families. The work is currently in Fairmont subdivision, Lockport IL, where we began a major Neighborhood Rehabilitation Program, with the goal of engaging residents to revive their neighborhoods and provide affordable housing opportunities. As part of this work, Habitat has begun pre-development work on five vacant lots in the subdivision on land donated by the County of Will. WCHFH has a long history of work in Fairmont. WCHFH is also building Duplex homes, located in Elwood, IL, where 4 units have been constructed, 2 are under construction, and 10 units are planned to be constructed. These homes are being built as zero net carbon footprint homes, saving on utility bills, and offering an extremely stable and insulated home. WCHFH has opportunities for groups to volunteer on our construction job sites, building homes with many different building tasks throughout the build. No experience is required. WCHFH will train the volunteer on the tasks assigned. For those who may not want to be on the build site, we have the opportunity to serve as the lunch hostess, where the volunteers would be catered their lunch. We also have an opportunity to work in ourJoliet ReStore, to help build furniture, or arrange and clean the different furniture pieces on the floor. WCHFH's commitment to stable housing has a tremendous impact on family and community health, improved education outcomes for children, and increased financial stability and opportunity, and the effects are far-reaching and transformational, helping to drive critical social and economic outcomes, like reduced crime rates, tax revenue, and increased property values. Building and repairing homes also stimulates other sectors of the economy, driving additional spending and creating jobs. Habitat creates a ripple effect in local economies. Habitat affiliates purchase goods and services from local businesses and generate increased economic activity in their service areas. It is important to underscore the multiplier effect of investments in housing and how they may help accelerate our economic recovery. Habitat for Humanity's Quality of Life Framework enables us to address a wide range of community needs and create lasting positive change. By focusing on key elements such as housing, education, health, economic opportunities, safety, transportation, amenities, and social cohesion, we aim to foster a thriving and inclusive community where residents can flourish and build a brighter future. Through collaborative efforts and the support of dedicated volunteers, donors, and community partners, we are confident in our ability to transform Neighborhoods into vibrant and interconnected places that residents can proudly call home. WCHFH's commitment to Affordable Housing is exemplified by its significant financial investment in housing products and related educational support, including financial literacy and homeowner education. Our families must make between 40-70% of the area median income annually. This provides a family with sufficient monthly income to pay the Habitat mortgage, taxes and insurance without becoming debt-burdened. We will complete a comprehensive analysis of a family's ability to pay, and it will include detailed income verification, budget analysis and credit checks.
