Mission Statement
The mission of Solid Ground is to prevent and end homelessness for families with children through housing, resources and opportunity.
About This Cause
Solid Ground operates four supportive housing programs serving approximately 360 homeless women, men and children each year in Ramsey and Washington Counties in Minnesota: 1. East Metro Place provides 20 units of transitional housing. All units receive project-based Section 8 rental assistance to make the housing affordable to very low income families. A wide array of supportive services are available to adults and children, including assessment, goal planning, advocacy, basic needs assistance, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, employment services, living skills training (parenting, budgeting, etc.) and educational support. 2. East Metro Place II provides 14 units of permanent supportive housing, added in late 2005 to the White Bear Lake campus. Seven units are designated for homeless families with disabilities (typically mental illness and/or chemical dependency), and seven units serve families with histories of long term homelessness. As with the transitional housing program at East Metro Place, all 14 families in permanent housing receive Section 8 rental assistance and supportive services. 3. HomeSafe provides scattered-site housing is designed to help families move out of shelter and into housing in the community quickly and safely. Families receive monthly rental assistance, based on unit size, as well as supportive services for between twelve and eighteen months. 4. Home Again provides scattered-site transitional housing. Families receive six months of in-home services and a rental subsidy of $400 monthly. Upon entering Solid Ground programming, each family is partnered with an Advocate. The Advocate conducts an in-depth Family Assessment and then works with the parent(s) to develop an individualized goal plan. The plan involves six key goal areas: housing stability; employment and economic stability; educational advancement; independent living skills (parenting, budgeting, etc.); improved health; and community connections.
