At One Family Illinois, we build Villages that unite brothers and sisters in foster care, surround them with a community of hope, and help them grow into caring and productive adults.
About This Cause
ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION Mission & Background – One Family Illinois offers an alternative to foster care that centers care on the children and all the facets of their lives. We provide abandoned, abused, and neglected children a home and nurture them to adulthood. Children in foster care at One Family Illinois receive an abundance of services and resources to heal their emotional and physical wounds and allow them to concentrate on living and growing instead of merely surviving. At One Family Illinois, we build families for children in need, we help them shape their own futures, and we share in the development of their communities. We want every child to belong to a family and grow with love, respect, and security. By keeping brothers and sisters together, with a full time professional foster parent in an individual home, we rebuild a loving family life. The One Family Illinois model differs from traditional foster care in that: 1) Children live together with their siblings, 2) Children receive care and support from a full-time; professionally-trained foster parent; 3) Children grow up in a private, single family home; and 4) Children are supported by the Village, designed as a community of care. While most foster families are isolated from other foster families in traditional foster care, our foster families live in close proximity to one another in a community setting. Children grow within their family unit with the support of other families and Village staff. Professionally trained foster parents at One Family Illinois do not work outside the home so that they may exclusively raise children. This allows the foster parent to take children to appointments, provide consistent supervision and mentoring, and most importantly, provide the opportunity to develop positive relationships with the children. They make a long-term commitment to remaining a foster parent.
