About This Cause

GWTP seeks to develop practical, model solutions to the symptoms of systemic economic injustice by providing equitable and accessible training and supportive services for community members and small to mid-sized local employers. Since its founding in 1988, the agency has: - Established training programs and placed neighborhood workers at more than 450 local companies. - Trained, supported, and placed nearly 10,000 low-income community residents and dislocated workers into sustainable employment. - Provided more than 5,500 high school-aged students with alternative education, job training, job placement, youth mentoring, career planning assistance, and dropout prevention services. - Delivered comprehensive employment preparation, support services, training, and job placement to more than 700 people experiencing homelessness. Programs: 1) The Occupational Skills Training offers two comprehensive job training programs, in the high-growth industries of Woodworking & Solid Surface Manufacturing and Shipping & Receiving, that fully incorporate technical skills training with basic skills remediation and 12-months of post-program support including job readiness and placement services. 2) West Town Academy is an alternative high school for students not enrolled in traditional school or GED programs, but who want to take the important step of returning to school, earning a diploma, and taking control of their future. 3) Career Pathways provides career services that include: case planning and management, Individual Education and Employment Planning (IEEP), job readiness training, and placement and follow-up services.
