About This Cause
For over twenty-five years Accelerate Institute has focused on rethinking the way we approach schooling, shifting from a focus on changing student behavior and mindsets to changing systems and adult mindsets. Too many schools replicate the biases and inequities we see in broader society. Rather than minimizing gaps in opportunities that exist outside of school and before children arrive to their classrooms, schools often widen them further. As the places where children spend most of their time learning, we want our schools to reflect the world we would like to see; to reduce inequity rather than increase it. Without truly effective and transformational principals working to ensure that children growing up in poverty have access to great schools, we will continue to have the same troubling conversation about education in America. Accelerate Institute believes school leaders who are properly trained—and believe that all students can and must succeed—have the power to transform urban schools...and ultimately children’s lives. The achievement gap is not about students who are failing; it is about the schools that have failed the students. There are far too many statistics discussing what children cannot do simply because their education has failed them. It is time to change the conversation. Change the outcomes. Change how we address education in the U.S. Our range of programming provides rising and current K-12 school leaders with the skills and customized support necessary to execute school-wide change management and significantly improve academics and culture. Our proven leadership development formula is evidence-based curriculum, rigorous training, mentoring, and first-hand experience. Together, the 221 leaders we have supported have impacted more than 62,400 students in 27 cities, and 79% of the schools we work with outperform the national average for student growth.
