Mission Statement
The mission of the Three Fires Council, Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. SCOUT OATH: On my honor, I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; and to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. SCOUT LAW: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
About This Cause
The Boy Scouts of America was incorporated on February 8, 1910 and chartered by Congress in 1916 as an educational organization. The Three Fires Council, based in St. Charles, Illinois, was organized in 1992 when the Two Rivers Council and the DuPage Area Council merged. Since that time, the Three Fires Council has grown to serve approximately 14,280 youth participating in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, and Exploring. The Three Fires Council serves DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, and parts of Cook and Will counties of Illinois. The Three Fires Council has 29 full-time employees, 60 part-time and seasonal employees, and 5,303 volunteers. In 2017, the National Board of Boy Scouts of America unanimously voted to begin inviting girls into its programs. This officially began with girls being welcomed into Cub Scout programs in the fall of 2018 and older girls started joining Scouts BSA in February of 2019. Girls are also eligible to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Weekly unit meetings continue to be single gender, but an organization may have a group of units meeting monthly serving the entire family. This approach allows the organization to maintain the integrity of the single-gender model of character education while also meeting the needs of today’s families.
