About This Cause
ADVANCING JUSTICE | CHICAGO Advancing Justice | Chicago carries out its mission through these five critical strategy areas: Education and Research generates the analysis and related training tools to educate our constituencies, policy makers, and legislators about the Asian American community in order to aid the development of policy campaigns, education programs, and organizing strategies. Through Advancing Justice | Chicago’s education and research, we have produced regional demographic reports, and held policy briefings on the Asian American community, highlighting key issues such as civic participation, redistricting, and poverty. Leadership Development creates a pipeline of informed, aware, and strategic leaders who are passionate about both leadership and Asian American issues. Advancing Justice | Chicago cultivates empowered leaders to be catalysts for change in the Asian American community. Core leadership development initiatives include the annual Asian American Leadership Forum and the KINETIC program which empowers immigrant and refugee high school students in Chicago Public Schools. Legal Advocacy Program advocates for laws and policies that promote social, economic, and political equity for the Asian American community as a whole including initiatives in the areas of voting rights, language access, hate crimes, and discrimination. Under this program, Advancing Justice | Chicago develops an annual state agenda with partner organizations, and convenes the Asian American Legislative Caucus, made up of members of the Illinois General Assembly. The legal advocacy team also recruits and deploys the largest non-profit, non-partisan poll monitoring operation in Illinois to protect the vote of naturalized immigrants and those who are limited-English proficient. Community Organizing equips the community with the knowledge and resources to regularly engage with power-brokers and decision-makers at all levels of society for the advancement of social justice, equal rights, political representation, and human dignity. Ongoing community organizing projects include convening the Pan Asian Voter Empowerment (PAVE) Coalition, and organizing a non-partisan “Get Out The Vote” effort to mobilize Asian Americans in Illinois. A National Partnership gives Advancing Justice | Chicago visibility on the national stage, thanks to our joint affiliation with four other Advancing Justice offices located in Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. The members of Asian Americans Advancing Justice work as equal and independent partners under one name to provide a unified, powerful voice to advance justice for all Asian American and Pacific Islander communities across the nation. The affiliation enables Advancing Justice | Chicago to better promote justice, empower communities, bring local and national constituents together, and increase opportunities for national exposure for Asian Americans Advancing and Pacific Islander communities. Together, the Advancing Justice affiliates organizing a biennial Advancing Justice Conference, the largest Asian American focused convening in the United States.
