Mission Statement
Child's Voice changes the lies of children with hearing loss, preparing them for a lifetime of success! The mission of Child's Voice is to empower children with hearing loss to be successful in all educational and social settings by optimizing their listening, speaking, and academic skills.
About This Cause
At Child’s Voice, we are excited to be working with children with hearing loss, investing in the future, but building their skills and educational ability. Our students learn to listen, speak, read, and gain knowledge through the programs at Child’s Voice. Children are empowered and prepared for a lifetime of learning with their hearing peers. For 24 years, we have supported hundreds of families on their journey with hearing loss. Babies begin listening even before they are born, learning the sounds of their mother, hearing her voice, her heartbeat. The first days, months, and years nurture language and listening skills as newborns and infants absorb sounds and voices. Deafness creates a void in this exposure to sound. The child with hearing loss is now working to close a gap in their early development of language and comprehension. Child’s Voice is the bridge to this critical skill-building. Child’s Voice collaborates with families with the end goal of preparing each student to move into their neighborhood school districts and attend their local, mainstream schools. The programs at Child’s Voice focus on the mission of empowering children with hearing loss to be successful in all educational and social settings by optimizing their listening, speaking and academic skills. Since 1996, Child’s Voice has been the only private school in northern Illinois that supports this underserved population, offering the specialized continuum of services to children with hearing loss and their families. The programs at Child’s Voice include: •The Early Intervention Program – building the critical foundation of listening and spoken language skills with children (birth through 3-years old), and offering coaching, support and advocacy tools to parents. •The School Program –a school-age, classroom-style, listening and spoken language program for children aged 3-8. Students receive an intensive classroom education focused on language and auditory skill development as well as key academic components and social interactions. •Outreach & Support Programs – includes following graduates of the School Program for five years in their neighborhood schools (ages 5-12) and throughout their educational career to ensure success and provide support. Other services include alumni testing opportunities, offering resources to meet their educational, listening and spoken language needs, social work services and auditory-verbal therapy. •The Audiology Center – provides services to children in our EI and School Programs. These services include diagnostic testing, evaluation and device support. Additionally, the Pediatric Early Hearing & Intervention (PEHDI)® Program offers diagnostic testing and screenings to improve the follow up of families with newborns/infants at risk for hearing loss and increasing the timeliness of diagnosis when a loss is present. Child’s Voice is located in Wood Dale and Chicago and serves 400 children across 80 zip codes in northern Illinois.
