Mission Statement

Hillside Health Care International is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization providing free medical care and community health education to underserved communities in southern Belize since 2000. Medical, physical therapy, pharmacy, nursing, and public health services are provided daily by a team of dedicated health practitioner volunteers, local Belizean staff, and international clinical students. We also offer global health education with academic credit for medical trainees, providing them the opportunity to learn while serving. All of our services are provided free of charge to the people of the Toledo district and made possible by donors from around the world. Hillside does not receive government funding, but instead relies on the generosity of individual donors and charitable organizations.

About This Cause

Hillside Health Care International is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization providing free medical care and community health education to underserved communities in southern Belize since 2000. Medical, physical therapy, pharmacy, nursing, and public health services are provided daily by a team of dedicated health practitioner volunteers, local Belizean staff, and international clinical students. Our patients are seen for their initial visit, follow-up visits, and any additional needs or services at our outpatient clinic in Eldridgeville, in their home, or in their village during our mobile clinic visits. Community health education is provided to children and adults in their schools, community centers, homes, and places of work; topics include but are not limited to dental hygiene, women's health, first aid for families, skin care, diabetes, hypertension, mental health, occupational lifting techniques, men's health, family planning, disability awareness, neck & low back pain prevention, workplace injury prevention, health & wellness, nutrition & fitness, and sports nutrition & injury prevention. Hillside works with a diverse population of individuals from Mayan, East Indian, Creole, Hispanic, and Garifuna cultures. Many of Hillside’s patients live in rural villages with no electricity and limited or no access to a safe water supply. Hillside collaborates and performs trainings with the Belize Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Community Health Workers, Peace Corps Volunteers, and local nonprofit organizations to improve the quality of life for Belizeans.
