Mission Statement
Christina’s House is a faith-based ministry developed to meet the needs of women and their children who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in the Springfield area. Our mission is to educate, embrace, and encourage women and their children who are homeless or near homeless through the love of Jesus Christ. We know that we cannot reach all of the women and their children, but by helping just one family, we may change a generation.
About This Cause
Christina's House was the vision of President and Founder, Linda Mumblo. A seed was planted in her heart to open a home for women and their children who were experiencing homelessness or near homelessness while sitting in church one day. This seed was planted in 2010 and after retiring from her career as a Registered Nurse of over 30 years, and two years of research and preparation, that seed began to grow as Linda established Christina's House as a registered 501(c)3 in 2012. Linda, along with a dedicated Board of Directors then began the journey to find a home to start Christina's House. Christina’s House opened its doors in late 2014 to their first home on Madison Avenue in Springfield, Massachusetts. The purchase of this home was possible because of the many individuals and businesses who generously donated to make Christina’s House a reality. In April 2020 at the height of the pandemic, Christina’s House expanded its ministry with the purchase of a 2nd location on Union Street to meet the needs of families in Springfield, MA. In April of 2023 we expanded our program with a 3rd house "Freedom House" in Hampden, MA. Again, businesses, churches, and individuals heeded the call to help make the dream to expand the program a reality. Christina’s House was designed to provide an educational program and transitional housing for women and their children. Families we serve stay in one of our two locations for 18-24 months as they navigate through the program's custom syllabus, work with case managers to create and reach SMART goals and work toward self-sufficiency. Christina's House provides care through a trauma-informed care lens that celebrates the uniqueness of every mother and child that our program supports. Each home serves up to 15 individuals. As of April 2023, we currently serve 7 families, including 13 children, in our 3 homes; by the end of May, we are anticipating welcoming four more families who will make Christina’s House their home as they join the program. Annually over 300 women and mothers reach out to Christina’s House.. The need for our program is great! We also support 15 graduate families helping to assess their needs, ensuring their continued success, and providing support as we are able. Many of our graduates give bak regularly by volunteering. Our mission extends beyond the walls of our homes and into the community. We assess the needs of local shelters, pantries, health centers, and individuals and provide donations of food, clothing, furniture, and more when and where we are able. As we look to the next 10 years and beyond, we see all the possibilities to serve many more women and children! Today, we look to you to help us continue to support the families we serve today and those who will find us in the future. Your contribution will help us address today’s increasing expenses – additional staff needed to support our doubled capacity and the day-to-day operation of two homes – and will support our vision for the future to make a difference for women and their children and the Springfield community.
