Mission Statement

To reach youth and families that traditional institutions can't.

About This Cause

Established in January 2017, Austin17House was born after the tragic loss that ignited a powerful mission. After the passing of Austin, a vibrant 17-year-old, in a drug-related car accident, his father, Mark, was touched by the outpouring of love and support at Austin's wake. Friends and peers shared how Austin had positively impacted their lives, and in that moment, Mark realized the need for a safe haven for youth in the community. 8 years later, we’ve become just that, with a sole mission to reach youth and families that traditional institutions can’t. Our demographics include youth in grades 6 and up and their families, with youth joining our programs from an 85-mile radius. The Austin17House, A17H, has been in existence for over 8 years, with primary referrals being from large sector groups, i.e. hospitals, mental health centers, law enforcement agencies, diversion programs, local YMCAs, and WRAP-around service providers, because there are not enough safe environments for youth to go, be themselves and learn the necessary skills they need to get through life. Our center provides that safe space, along with 50+ dedicated and passionate staff, mentors, and partners that give of their time every week. Career Professional Mentors provide workplace learning experiences, working alongside youth in a vocational field of interest, to help provide guidance, encouragement and hands-on learning during the week. Our in-house, work-based learning experiences include music, art, theater, sewing and fashion, cooking, woodworking, automotive, STEM, apiary, gardening, health, wellness and recreation. Additionally, the A17H provides workplace readiness training through our very own Training Academy, which is focused on skill development, personal growth, and workforce readiness. Students are guided through a 4-week workshop where they learn interpersonal, independent living skills and market-aligned skills to help them feel confident to move forward in whatever vocational path they may choose.
