Mission Statement

Community Healing And Mental Health Project (CHAMP) is dedicated to fostering a community where conversations about mental health are encouraged, resources are easily accessible, and prioritizing healing takes center stage. Our commitment lies in advocating for change, dismantling stigma, and actively promoting healing within black and brown communities.

About This Cause

CHAMP, which stands for Community Healing And Mental Health Project, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving mental health and fostering healing, particularly in underserved communities. It was created in response to the tragic 2019 event in Fort Worth when Atatiana Jefferson, a beloved community member, was taken from her community. This heartbreaking incident highlighted the urgent need for accessible mental health support and trauma-informed care in black and brown communities. CHAMP’s mission is to break the stigma surrounding mental health, empower individuals with coping skills, and create safe spaces for open dialogue and healing. Through innovative programs like the Mobile Mental Wellness Unit and Unity Healing Camps, CHAMP addresses the unique challenges faced by vulnerable youth and their families. By providing direct mental health services, life skills training, and community-based support, CHAMP works to reduce youth incarceration, gun violence, and promote lasting, positive change within the community.
