Mission Statement
The Evanston Symphony Orchestra uses the power of music to lift the human spirit. We engage and enrich the community by coming together to perform, inspire and educate.
About This Cause
The Evanston Symphony Orchestra is an all-volunteer orchestra steeped in a 60+ year tradition of delighting local audiences with enriching, live performance at an affordable level. Dedicated to and recognized for its musical excellence, the ESO is a cultural treasure of the community linking youth, families and seniors through the shared experience of music. All musicians performing with the Evanston Symphony Orchestra donate their time. The Music Director is Lawrence Eckerling. The orchestra performs to a very high standard, to capacity audiences. The Evanston Symphony Orchestra won Illinois Orchestra of the Year in 2010, and Maestro Eckerling won Illinois Conductor of the Year in 2014. The ESO performs five concerts a year, four in a subscription series. Tickets to the subscription concerts are very affordable with discounts for seniors and students, and free tickets for children 12 and under. The ESO also performs a much loved holiday pops concert, collaborating with four other music organizations, North Shore Choral Society, Evanston Children's Choir, Evanston Dance Ensemble, and the Madrigal Choirs from Evanston Township High School. The ESO also offers four free music lecture/recitals in downtown Evanston prior to each subscription concert. The ESO also works with its local School District 65 to provide free music education to pre-schoolers in the Head Start program, meeting one of the five key pre-literacy components of the curriculum.
