SPRINGFIELD CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

Mission Statement

Springfield Christian School is a non-denominational K-8th school in Springfield, IL that pursues excellence in both academic and spiritual development. At SCS, families find a school community that is safe (physically, emotionally, spiritually…), where we have a culture of positive peer pressure and it is normal to try hard, do well, and seek to give our best in all aspects of our lives.

About This Cause

Springfield Christian School strives to meet the needs of every student as we train tomorrow’s leaders to impact their world. Whether a student is a future artist, attorney, athlete or accountant, they will find an education at SCS to put them on the right path in life. Our students enjoy low class sizes and teachers striving for differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students. At SCS we have earned a national reputation among Christian schools as a flexible and agile student-centric institution. Our students are led by educators who love them and want them to become the people God created them to be; learning that they are created on purpose and for a purpose. Our highly trained, professional educators are equipped to help students reach their personal best. We continually pursue excellence in education, from educational technology such as ActivClassrooms in each of our 18 homerooms, to utilizing best practice in instruction and assessment. Our students have high national achievement scores, and participate in championship-caliber fine arts, extracurricular and athletic activities and competitions. Further, at SCS we are not content with students merely meeting or exceeding grade level standards. We use our nationally normed computer adapted assessments three times each school year to measure student progress, believing each student deserves at least a year of growth, regardless of their starting point. This approach allows us to focus on appropriately challenging all of our students (including advanced students) beyond merely checking to see if they would meet the grade level standard at their grade each year (in fact many of our advanced students could meet their grade level standards without yet even attending that grade). Even though many of our students begin the year ahead of their national peers, the majority of SCS students have greater academic growth as measured from fall to the spring of the academic year than national statistics would predict. In addition to valuing excellence in academics, we also value excellence in character development. Our school family is a community devoted to service of others. Instead of popular culture’s insistence that we should pursue personal happiness above all else, our students learn to love their neighbors as themselves, to do to others what they would have others do to them, that we are changed so that we can bring change to others, and to answer the call to be the light of the world. Our students are noticeably different. For example, in 2009, the late Springfield Mayor Tim Davlin was so inspired by the generosity and service of SCS students, that he proclaimed September 15, “Springfield Christian School Day.” Students and families find in SCS a community where other families and students share their values and where it is normal to honor and serve others. At all levels (physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, etc.), this is a loving and safe environment where children can grow to be all God created them to be. Certified by the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to accept international students, Springfield Christian School is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International, a member of the Illinois Elementary School Association (a state-wide athletic and activities association), and enjoys recognition status for the Illinois State Board of Education. We are specifically seeking partners to help us enhance the educational technology we are able to use with our students! Thank you in advance for your consideration in making a donation to support tomorrow's leaders.
