Mission Statement

Marion Medical Mission is an ecumenical, Christian, front-line, hands-on, volunteer, non-profit organization that responds to Christ’s call to serve by working hand in hand with God’s people in Africa. MMM shares the love of Jesus Christ by providing safe, clean, sustainable sources of drinking water to the extreme poor in Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Mozambique.

About This Cause

$475 builds a well for an entire rural African village. To build a well, the village makes the brick and provides the sand, stone, and unskilled labor. MMM supplies only what the villages cannot: the cement, Mark V galvanized steel pump, PVC pipe, and skilled African labor. A Marion Medical Mission well is sustainable because it is a well the extreme rural poor know how to maintain and can afford to maintain. We show the love of Christ through projects that directly impact the African people, stressing self-help and sustainability. Since 1990, over 50,000 wells have been built serving an estimated 5 million people in the extreme rural poor in Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania, and Mozambique. Sustainable, clean, safe drinking water means children won’t die from waterborne diseases, healthier children can attend school, and the village people will be healthier and able to work longer in their fields, meaning less starvation. On each and every well, "Glory to God" is inscribed in the concrete top slab in English and the village language.
