Mission Statement
Erie fosters the habits of Heart, Mind and Work. We build Spanish proficiency and open doors to multicultural competence. Our responsive environment and engaging curriculum empower, educate and elevate students to confidently enter a path of higher education and participate in a diverse global society. We envision empowered students who cultivate character, connect to culture, pursue education, and contribute to their community in order to thrive in a diverse global society.
About This Cause
We are driven by the knowledge that through a thorough education we can all realize our full potential and contribute to an equitable and just society. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and we work to strengthen our families, build partnerships to best serve our community. During the Covid-19 global health pandemic we are serving as a local food distributor to families and we have supplied our families with school supplies and desks for students to learn at home. This year because of our community of supporters we were able to put a school-issued chromebook or iPad device in the hands of every child so they can connect to remote learning. We work to support our community and have supplied families who need it with school-issued mi-fi devices to ensure connectivity for our students. At Erie, our students, families, and staff build strong connections and cultivate relationships - we all refer to Erie as our second home and all look forward to the day we get to be back together in our second home. Erie Elementary, founded in 2005 and located in the heart of Chicago’s Puerto Rican neighborhood. We are a non-profit, K-8th grade dual-language charter school that teaches in both Spanish and English with Social Emotional Learning at the core of our curriculum. We believe in putting children on a path to higher education starting in Kindergarten - with every child touring 15 high school and college campuses by the time the graduate 8th grade. Erie is built on the strong foundation of the Erie Neighborhood House (ENH), a nationally accredited child-care program and comprehensive social service agency that has served Chicago’s community for 150 years. Born from the Board of Directors of ENH, Erie embodies the vision of providing school choice for families where students can learn in a nurturing and caring environment and receive an excellent and culturally relevant education.
