Mission Statement
Mission Statement Our mission is to use fishing as a platform to reach youth and families and provide them with opportunities to escape the distractions of urban and rural life and reconnect with each other through the great outdoors. We offer opportunities to learn new skills and to make a difference a difference in the community. Interacting with others from diverse cultural backgrounds, participants gain experiences in leadership and shared decision making, as well as an appreciation of nature, conservation, restoration, and education. We focus on: • Mentoring Our mentors help build self-esteem, self-respect, independence and integrity. They provide one-on-one training in the basics of fishing – techniques, equipment, angling ethics, and safety – and stress our responsibility to nature and the importance of conservation programs and the effects these have on the health of the ecosystem. • Community We work with community organizations to identify youth and mentors from throughout the community to promote a continual yearlong mentoring opportunity. We also work with local businesses that provide us with equipment, and with conversation organizations and government agencies to educate participants in the art, science and sport of fishing. • Service We teach participants to give back to their communities by creating volunteer and service opportunities at events and activities in the Portland metro area. At these events they build friendships, partnerships, and learn new skills.
About This Cause
Vision Statement I’m Hooked is dedicated to making a reel difference in the lives of children by promoting positive youth development. Values Statement Wisdom: Wisdom is the ability to make the right decisions, not just for self, but also for family and community. We display this by being well organized and team oriented demonstrating an interactive approach to work together in order to be successful, accomplishing long and short-term goals. We will collectively make decisions with staff and board members that have the best interest of I’m Hooked, Inc. and the community participating in the programs at heart. Empower: to give power or authority to; authorize, especially by legal or official means, to encourage. We display this by being positive role models and encouraging the youth to overcome whatever life situations may apply. We will not allow confusion within I’m Hooked; Inc. staff and community take away form our goals. Generosity: Generosity is giving of possessions, time, and energy to others so that they may prosper. We display this by creating volunteer/service opportunities between outdoor sports organizations and people engaged in youth activities in our local area. Courage: Courage is the willingness to put oneself in harms way to protect family and community or to advance a higher cause or purpose. We display this by being a voice for kids who are powerless to being heard. Giving youth alternatives to the peer pressured lifestyle they encounter everyday. Honor: Honor is having integrity and honest character—one who can be trusted. We display this by providing a valuable experience to children and families within the community. Mentoring them to be productive members of the community. Respect: Respect is understanding the importance of all creation, including people, animals and earth. We display this by modeling proper treatment of all people and the environment. We will teach the youth to obey the law and honor authority. Humility: Humility is the core value—understanding that the values and gifts given to us by our creator are not meant only for personal gain. We display this by combining our talents to teach the youth to think of others before themselves, to serve the community and to give back to the environment. Integrity: Endeavor to pursue honorable initiatives, conduct business in a honest, transparent and ethical manner.
