About This Cause
WHO Is Lost Our Home Pet Rescue? Lost Our Home Pet Rescue was founded in 2008 as a grassroots response to the thousands of pets in need as a result of the economic downturn and Phoenix-area foreclosure crisis in particular. Lost Our Home Pet Rescue is a non-profit 501c3 charitable organization that provides animal welfare services for both pets and their people. MISSION and DISTINCTION Lost Our Home Pet Rescue’s mission is to keep pets in loving homes when families face major life challenges. We provide compassionate alternatives to abandonment with support from the community and the real estate industry. PROGRAMS Animal Rescue: The Animal Rescue Program takes in pets from owners who are unable to provide care due to life challenges. LOH also rescues pets that have been abandoned and partners with multiple municipalities to transfer in pets from high-risk shelters. LOH is a trusted resource for the public, other animal welfare organizations, and many nonprofits serving high-risk and underserved populations in Maricopa County, AZ. We provide all pets with safe shelter, daily care, enrichment, comprehensive medical care and then find new loving families for them. Temporary Care Program: The Temporary Care Program, one of the first of its kind in the country and one of the largest, stands as a beacon of hope, offering up to three months of comprehensive pet care for individuals facing life's most challenging moments, including eviction, homelessness, illness, domestic violence, and other significant hardships. In these critical times, LOH extends a compassionate hand, providing up to 4 months of care if their pet is temporarily not able to stay with them. This program has been so successful that we continue to consult with other agencies nationwide looking to replicate it. Temporary Care Program – Domestic Violence shelters: Nearly half (48%) of domestic violence victims stay in harmful situations due to concerns for their pets' welfare if they were to leave. We partner with many domestic violence shelters to help them with a pet program on their campuses. We provide complete support from supplies, policies, employee training, dog training, software, medical management, and more. Tempe First Responder Program provides 24/7 access to the shelter for first responders on duty when they have a situation involving a pet that needs a safe place to go. Pet-Food Bank and Animeals on Wheels: The Pet-Food Bank Program is pivotal in supporting families facing hardship, offering six months' worth of essential supplies such as food, leashes, collars, cat litter, treats, and more. This initiative is especially crucial for those grappling with food insecurity, including seniors who sometimes must choose between purchasing their medications or food. Some seniors go hungry because they share their very limited human food with their pets. By providing these vital resources, LOH helps families and their furry members stay together, preventing the difficult choice of surrendering pets to shelters due to financial strain.
