YMCA of Greater Michiana is a nonprofit, charitable organization whose mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
About This Cause
YMCA of Greater Michiana is a non-profit organization serving southwest Michigan and northcentral Indiana for over 140 years. Our association is comprised of six locations, including the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph YMCA in St. Joseph, MI, the Niles-Buchanan YMCA and Northside Child Development Center in Niles, Michigan, YMCA Camp Eberhart, in Three Rivers, Michigan, and the YMCA O’Brien Center and the Downtown South Bend YMCA in South Bend, Indiana. Collectively, these branches currently serve over 14,000 members, employing over 600 people with an annual operating budget of $13.3 million. Our mission is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. Our programs and services are focused on our primary areas of impact that help people achieve their goals and strengthen communities. We do this through: Youth Development - We help young people to grow into healthy, thriving adults by offering supportive education and leadership programs, team sports, childcare, and camps. Specific programs include full-day childcare, summer day camps, Y-Club before & after school care, teen center programming, and more. Healthy Living - We support individual and community well–being. People of all ages, interests, and skill levels can find the fitness classes, family activities, and group interests they need to lead active, vibrant lives. The Y also collaborates with community leaders to bring healthy living within reach of all people. This encompasses all areas of wellness from Get Started orientations for new members to evidence-based health initiatives including LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA for adult cancer survivors, EnhanceFitness® to serve our active older adult population, YMCA’s Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program, and more. Social Responsibility - Through community programs, local outreach, and engagement, we provide support and inspire action in our communities. This area of impact includes programs like outreach water safety, providing volunteer opportunities for youth in our community, and more. As a non-profit working to meet our community’s needs, we envision a future in which all people – no matter who they are or where they come from – get the support they need, when they need it, to reach their full potential.
