About This Cause
Every day, United Way of South Central Michigan brings people together to build stronger, more caring communities where every person is valued, thriving, and connected for the common good. Our work is powered by passionate donors and local businesses that are committed to supporting the strength, vitality, and resilience of our community. Here are a few quick things to know about us: - For every donor dollar raised, we bring an additional $3.50 back into community through government funding and grant dollars. Last year, our collective impact totaled more than $25 million across our six-county footprint! - In our region, 26% of households fall into a category of hardworking people whose wages are not keeping up with the rising cost of living. We refer to this group as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). We center the needs of ALICE households, focusing especially on economic and racial disparities in the programs we offer, the nonprofits we partner with, and what we advocate for. - Our larger, six-county footprint allows us to tap new resources and create an even greater impact, and your dollars stay local. A financial gift to United Way SCMI is more than just a donation. It’s a collaboration – one that can transform lives in meaningful ways and benefit every person in our community. We service Calhoun, Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Jackson, and Kalamazoo counties.
