Dwelling Place improves the lives of people by creating quality affordable housing, providing essential support services, and serving as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization.
About This Cause
Dwelling Place owns and manages more than 1,200 apartments and homes in 29 housing communities throughout West Michigan, serving households with a wide variety of incomes and backgrounds, and providing critical support services to more than 400 residents to ensure they can maintain permanent housing after facing homelessness, mental illness and other disabling circumstances. Dwelling Place has renovated abandoned school houses, collaborated with neighbors on the west side of Grand Rapids to combat gentrification, built new senior housing and maintained 75 artist live/work and commercial spaces downtown, and expanded our services into rural communities. Business-related support services are also part of the Dwelling Place programs for artists in live/work spaces and a wide variety of other commercial tenants. With a combination of more than 75 office, retail, commercial and live/work spaces. Our various programs are supported by some dynamic initiatives such as resident community gardening, volunteerism, community art projects, peer to peer support and community celebrations. Though all that we do, Dwelling Place continues to serve as a catalyst in the growth and revitalization efforts of neighborhoods where we serve.
