HANDS (HELPING AND NURTURING DIVERSE SENIORS)

BURLINGTON, Vermont, 05401-2813 United States

Mission Statement

HANDS fills gaps in getting food to older adults in Vermont. We provide a county-wide meal and giftbag delivery on Christmas Day. During the summer, we oversee gardening programs at senior housing, long-term nursing centers, and community garden sites. Our special emphasis is on older veterans.

About This Cause

Vermont is second in the United States in terms of a senior population. We'll need to implement programs that care for their physical, emotional, and mental health needs. Food is one of those basic necessities. HANDS is trying to fill gaps in getting food to seniors, without duplicating what's being done. For the Christmas delivery and sitdown dinner, we partner with Age Well, Burlington School Food Project, Elks Club, and Temple Sinai. Our "HANDS in the Dirt" gardening program is co-sponsored with Vermont Community Garden Network. Funding comes from grants, individual and business donations. Both of our programs are based on a large community effort.
