Mission Statement
To promote awareness and fund research for Lynch syndrome, which is a genetic condition that puts people at a higher risk of certain types of aggressive cancer.
About This Cause
Mayberry Memorial was founded in 2014 after the death of Steve Mayberry, who passed away from colorectal cancer at the age of 49. Steve knew he had a family history of colon cancer and got screened every 3 years, but it wasn't until after he passed that we learned he had Lynch syndrome where it is recommended that he should have been receiving coloscopies every year. It is estimated that 1 in 280 people carry Lynch syndrome, however 95% of those people don't know they have it - such as Steve Mayberry. Our vision is to raise awareness of Lynch syndrome through events and fundraising, so that nobody has to suffer the same fate as Steve. Our latest program is called Project Conquer, where Mayberry Memorial pays for qualifying high-risk applicants to receive free genetic testing for Lynch syndrome and conquer their genetic history. We plan to expand this program over the years and impact the community to realize our vision of raising awareness of the Lynch syndrome in the population.
