Mission Statement
EDsnaps’ vision is to increase diversity in the STEM Workforce. Our mission is to turn STEM-learners into STEM-leaders. We believe that investing in today’s STEM-learners is investing in tomorrow’s STEM-leaders. Our focus is to provide free Quality Education in the form of hands-on STEAM experiential programs, including hands-on workshops, mentorships, internships in professional environments, with a unique approach that holds the key to personal & professional success for all participants. Our primary constituents are underserved female identifying persons, of which over 97% are identified as English as Second Language (ESL) students. Access to quality education gives people, - STEM-learners -, opportunities to learn about, develop and apply the life-skill sets they need to increase their personal & professional value and Quality of Life, experience economic growth, and become the next generation of STEM-leaders.
About This Cause
Local and global communities are in need of diversity in the STEM workforce. Diversity is not created by appointing minorities in Boards. Diversity is created by showing opportunities to the next generation of underserved students and showing them how they can change the needle in the unequal division of minorities represented in the STEM workforce. Population we serve. Over 95% of our student constituents qualify as having a low socioeconomic status, meaning that their household is exposed to low/poor income. Parents/caregivers if present have a low occupation, and inadequate living conditions, limited access to quality healthcare, proper nutrition, food security, low community safety and limited food security. About 62% of our student constituents are African-American, 31% Latina, 3% Caucasian, 4% Other. It is more difficult to identify gender. We noticed over the past 2 years that many of our students re-identified their gender identity. We estimate that we have about 88% female-identifying, 8% binary and 4% male-identifying, On purpose we use the terminology female-identifying as this terminology is more including as using the term female and male. 97% of our students are part of an English as Second Language household. Over 80% of our students are part of a single parent household. As our business model applies a vertical sustainable business model, the age range of our students is between age 10 to early career professionals (cut off 30 years of age). Our student population includes about 7% of students with a registered learning difficulty and about 15% learning disability. Programs and Projects we offer: EDsnaps offers programs to young students (5-8 yrs coed) and their families, female-identifying middle & high school students (age 10-18 yrs) and college students (19 yrs and older). Upper level high school and college-enrolled students receive training to become Counselors for programs offered to the younger students. All Programs are created to provide opportunities to underserved female-identifying students and their families to lower the barriers of entry to STEM-content courses giving them a (better) understanding of all STEM principles, with the ultimate goal to encourage young students of color to develop an appreciation for STEM, and enter the STEAM workforce adding diversity to the workforce.
