We envision a future where people with physical challenges can become self-reliant, and a valued part of their communities. Our main purpose is to guide through educational community programs for people with physical challenges. By educating these communities and teaching them necessary skills, we can help them become productive members of society. Through primary studies, vocational workshops and wellness through yoga practice, we can inspire and nourish our communities.

About This Cause

We help people with physical challenges by providing primary education, assistance, vocational studies, and yoga wellness. We envision a future where people with physical challenges can become self-reliant, and a valued part of their communities. Our main purpose is to provide education, vocation, and purpose for people with physical challenges, especially in parts of the world where people with physical challenges are marginalized. Right now, we work with young people in Nepal. In addition to primary studies and vocational training we also offer regular yoga practice to our participants. Yoga inspires and nourishes. It also empowers physically challenge children and adults with confidence a skill that will last a lifetime. We need funding to expand our programs. It is very important to teach the blind and deaf at an early age. Children of all types excel when they are taught at a young age. All children in our program are taught to be bilingual in Nepali/English and are housed for the first 10 years of their primary education in a boarding facility. For us to be able to do our work with blind children, we need to keep them in boarding facilities at an early age. The boarding system is very effective. Most of the children we support are of a very poor social status. Dealing with the expenses of day-to-day life in Nepal is difficult enough for their families without the added burden of a child of physical needs. By placing them in our boarding facility we accomplish two important things: one, we give the family an opportunity to not have to worry about the child’s educational needs, and two, it gives us the opportunity to teach the child in a contained, around-the-clock facility that is a safe space for them to grow and to learn. The boarding facility is helpful for all involved. It might be scary at first for the family. Parting with a child at a young age is very hard, but in this case, it becomes a blessing. As the child grows more independent and learns, the family as a whole can rejoice for the betterment of the child and family. These children have caring loving families. Most of them come from rural parts of Nepal, and without our boarding facilities, we could not host them in inner Kathmandu with a clean bed, nourishing food, and after class activities like music, tutoring and other after school activities. Our first-of-its-kind Yoga Project As part of the children’s education, we offer our first-of-its-kind, Yoga Project, where we teach blind children how to tap into the wellness of Yoga. This program has been a huge success. The program fosters a great sense of space and placement. We have seen their academic studies get better, and their health improved. Plus we have witness how much stronger our blind yogis have become. Creating a healthy, smart, and strong blind child has been one of our great accomplishments. Practical vocational training for adults in the poorest communities. In addition to these educational programs for the young, we also support vocational projects for deaf and physically challenged adult men and women. Currently, we have a group of 10 adults who we have been training. We aim to teach the adults practical skills that they can carry with them, throughout life. The practical skills we teach are of value in poor communities, like those we serve in Nepal. They are learning crafts that do not even require the use of electricity. This is of huge importance, being able to created a vocational trade that is electricity free in a country like Nepal is of important value. By providing educational opportunities, we are making an difference in the lives of adults and children. In order for us to grow, we need your support. Our organization runs on donations, and everyone associated with the administration of SmartyPants is a volunteer. Our overhead is low, but we need your help to help our participants strive for a better life through education. Please visit us at www.smartypants.live for more on what we do and how we do it.
