Mission Statement
Our main mission is "no kiddie without a Christmas". We provide holiday boxes with clothing, toys, candy and the like to 25,000 to 30,000 kids each year. We have been doing this since 1914.
About This Cause
Each holiday season since 1914, the Detroit Goodfellows provide 25,000 to 30,000 gift packages containing warm clothing, toys, books, games and candy to children age 4 to 13 throughout Detroit, Highland Park, Harper Woods, River Rouge, Ecorse, Redford and Hamtramck. Girls from age 4 to 9 also receive one of the 9,000 dolls the Detroit Goodfellows purchase and distribute for dressing to community, corporate and civic groups through its doll-dressing program. For 100 years dolls have been beautifully dressed in a variety of imaginative themes. The Detroit Goodfellows also sponsor a camp scholarship program that provides hundreds of deserving youth with an opportunity to attend summer camp. In the past children have attended camps offered by the Detroit Police and Fire Cadets, Detroit Public Schools and several other organizations. This year the Detroit Goodfellows contributed over $35,000 to seven non-profit day and overnight camps in Detroit and Highland Park. The Detroit Goodfellows also support the Titans for Teeth School Based Mobile Dental Clinic is a 38-foot mobile dental coach, which is an eight chair clinic; four chairs are inside of the van and four chairs are portable units that are set-up on-site, on-location. Throughout the academic year, the clinic travels to local participating schools in Detroit and Wayne County to provide comprehensive care for K-12 children. Treatment is performed by dental students under supervision of a licensed dentist and/or dental hygiene faculty. Finally, the Goodfellows support a shoe program whereby we provide vouchers for kids who need shoes with a free pair. This program has been in existence for many decades. The Goodfellows also support a scholarship program through Wayne State University.
