Mission Statement
Dane County Humane Society's purpose is to help animals in need, to provide support for pet owners, and to create a humane world for tomorrow.
About This Cause
Since 1921, Dane County Humane Society works to help homeless animals by providing care and adoption services. We see approximately 8,000 animals per year, including companion animals, local wildlife, and other animals needing assistance. We are an open admission animal shelter; we never turn an animal in need away. With support from our community, we are part of an Adoption Guarantee community in Dane County in south central Wisconsin; all healthy and treatable animals are guaranteed a second chance, or more, for finding new homes. We are the first open admission shelter in the country to be Adoption Guarantee. Staff and volunteers work side-by-side daily to provide individualized care for animals, to help lost pets become reunited with their families, to find shelter animals new homes, to enable pet owners to take good care of their pets, to share information and provide education, to rehabilitate and release wildlife, and to plant the seeds for future generations to have kindness, compassion and empathy for all living things. Because of our success, we are able to reach beyond county and state lines to help other animals in need.
