Mission Statement
The Greater Milwaukee Urban League (GMUL) leads through education, employment, advocacy, and civic engagement to achieve economic vibrancy and equal access to all industries and disciplines that position African Americans to create wealth and live a better quality of life.
About This Cause
Greater Milwaukee Urban League (GMUL) has been opening doors to opportunity for African Americans, and others in our community for over 96 years. Going back to its origins in 1919, MUL has a distinguished record of providing education, employment and economic development programs to help people become self-reliant. MUL has provided people with employment assistance, basic computer training, entrepreneurial classes, obtaining a GED and earning a driver's license. To promote the value of education, we support 4th-12th grade students with mentoring, a STEAM Summit, Urban Youth Pathways, and laptops & scholarships for those pursuing post-secondary education, training, or the military. MUL has also focused on entrepreneurship, business growth and financial literacy as a central part of helping people become more independent. GMUL's collaboration with educational institutions; city, county, and state units of government; public and private corporations; business and civic groups; as well as a variety of community agencies have enabled GMUL to carry out its mission. Aligned with our mission, the major elements of these programs are designed to assist our client population in accomplishing outcomes of increased self-sufficiency through continuing education, well-paying jobs, financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Greater Milwaukee Urban League continues to act as a catalyst for social justice and change.
