Mission Statement
Girl Scouts bring their dreams to life and work together to build a better world. Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges. Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them. We serve approximately 11,500 girls in grades K5-12, and 5,500 adults who believe in our mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. With programs in Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington and Waukesha counties, we give every Girl Scout in our council the chance to reach their full leadership potential.
About This Cause
Our programs: The Girl Scout Leadership Experience: Girl Scouts prepare for fun, friendship, and new adventures while making the world a better place. The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is girl-led, encourages learning by doing, and focuses on cooperative learning. Girl-led: Girl Scouts follow their own lead, no matter their age. From selecting badges they’ll pursue to how they’ll organize an activity, Girl Scouts have the chance to follow their dreams and grow their skills – and the confidence that comes with that. Learning by doing: Hands-on activities are fun for Girl Scouts of any age, but they also help them feel empowered to shape their own experience. Girl Scouts unlock their “I got this” attitude as they discover they can always dust themselves off and try again when things don’t go according to plan. Cooperative learning: There’s power in having a tight-knit group of friends who will learn with you, and always cheer you on. Girl Scouts see firsthand that teamwork, respect, and collaboration can fuel them through any challenge that comes their way. By participating in fun activities through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, Girl Scouts discover who they are, what they care about, and how to best use their unique talents; connect with others, both locally and globally to expand their horizons; and take action to make the world a better place. Problem Overview: Today’s youth need a broad set of skills, behaviors, and attitudes to effectively navigate their environment, work well with others, perform their best, and achieve their goals – competencies that are central to the development of human capital and workforce success around the world. Unfortunately, there is a profound gap between the knowledge and skills most youth learn in school and the knowledge and skills needed in 21st century communities and workplaces. In addition to being more competitive job candidates, youth who develop competencies like perseverance, self-esteem, and sociability have lower rates of obesity, depression, and aggression, and show greater life satisfaction and emotional wellbeing than youth who do not develop such attributes. Building confidence, forming healthy relationships, solving problems, and developing other such strengths is crucial to the wellbeing of youth, both today and in the future.
