About This Cause
When we first opened our doors in 1972, we were the first bilingual day care center serving the Hispanic population – today, the impact we make on the community, especially the Hispanic community, is much greater: La Causa’s Crisis Nursery & Respite Center is the only state licensed facility of its kind in WI. Open 24/7, we provide a safe place for children ages 0-12 when emergencies arise. We care for up to 12 children each night, and children can stay for up to 72 hours at no cost to the family. We are a resource in the community helping families avoid exposure to traumatic, crisis situations that could leave long-lasting, detrimental effects on a child’s emotional, mental and/or physical well-being. Each year, we serve over 600 children and 300 families. La Causa Charter School provides a rigourous, culturally relevant education to nearly 800 elementary and middle school students in K4 through 8th grade. Located on Milwaukee’s historic south side, La Causa Charter School offers bilingual learning in an innovative, multicultural environment. The Early Education & Care Center supports infants and toddlers (ages 4 weeks to 24 months), early preschool (age 2), and Three and Ready (ages 3 and 4). Children (up to age 12) attend the before and after school care and summer programs. La Causa’s Social Services provides support to youth, adults and families. Youth Programs focus on providing an array of services that improve a child and family’s quality of life. This includes youth care coordination and the licensing, recruitment and maintenance of treatment foster homes. We are proud to be Milwaukee County’s largest provider of Wraparound services. Our programs focus on a strength-based approach that encourages stability, empowerment, and family development. Adult Programs provides an array of services to support adults with mental health assessment, recovery support services, and assistance with drug or alcohol abuse. In some cases the support recovery includes a Peer Specialist, someone who can provide first-hand experience, to inspire and empower individuals who are on the road to recovery. La Causa's Treatment Foster Care matches families and youth for 24-hour care provided by licensed foster parents for children who cannot live with their parents due to unsafe, or other circumstances. Generally, placement in foster care is temporary and intended to give the child's family time to make necessary changes, so that the child can live safely in his or her home. Most children in foster care return home to their families. When children cannot return home, they find placement with relatives, adoption, or other alternatives. Our program serves children between birth to 18 years of age. We have a dedicated team of Treatment Foster Care Specialists who provide individual, family centered resources and care throughout the foster care process La Causa, Inc. provides essential support and services to youth, adults and families to strengthen and stabilize our community.
