Mission Statement
Located in Superior, Wisconsin, the Center Against Sexual & Domestic Abuse, Inc. (CASDA), provides supportive services for individuals hurts by domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse while advocating for a community effort to end violence.
About This Cause
The Center Against Sexual and Domestic Abuse, Inc. (CASDA), was incorporated in February 1988 when the Rape and Incest Victim Advocacy Program and the Coalition Against Domestic Violence combined efforts to provide a more comprehensive and coordinated approach to assisting adult and child victims of abuse in northwest Wisconsin and the greater Twin Ports (Duluth, MN, and Superior, WI) area. Our primary goal is to provide quality, victim-centered services that promote self-sufficiency and help victims move forward to an abuse-free life. Our professionally trained staff works to empower victims by emphasizing personal choice and respect. We provide options and allow victims and survivors to choose their own path to healing while guiding and supporting them through that process. In addition to providing direct services, we also strive to educate the community on the dynamics of abuse and engage them in our efforts to end violence. Promoting awareness about domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse is an important step in addressing violence in our community. Our current programs include: • A 24-hour, toll-free helpline maintained by staff and volunteers who provide crisis counseling, supportive listening and information and referrals to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. • An Emergency Shelter Program that provides safety and refuge to victims fleeing violence in the home. The shelter contains ten bedrooms set up to accommodate either one adult or a parent with children. • A Sexual Assault Program that specializes in providing supportive services specific to survivors of sexual violence as they move through the healing process. • A Children’s Program that provides education, support and safety planning to child victims and witnesses of abuse, as well as support to non-offending parents. • A Domestic Abuse Program that provides advocacy services specific to domestic violence survivors to assist in breaking free from the cycle of violence. - A Douglas County Outreach Program that provides follow-up, community-based support to longer term clients working to maintain their/their children's safety, stability, and self-sufficiency. • A Legal Program that consists of two attorneys who provide legal advice and representation for civil family law cases, as well as for restraining order petitions. • A Community Engagement Program that engages the community in the struggle to end violence and raise awareness. • A Rural Outreach Program that specializes in assisting victims residing in rural Ashland and Bayfield (WI) counties by reducing the additional barriers those individuals face simply because of where they live. • A Public Education Program that raises awareness about the dynamics of abuse and related area services. • An Immediate Response Program that allows advocates to contact victims immediately upon the arrest of their perpetrator.
