WAFER Food Pantry's mission is to provide food and work to eliminate hunger.
About This Cause
WAFER provides ~1500 food packages per month to families and individuals throughout La Crosse County Wisconsin and La Crescent Minnesota. Each food package contains 4-5 days worth of food person in the household including canned goods, bakery items, dairy products, frozen meat, and a large assortment of produce. In addition to in-house food distribution, WAFER operates several programs that target at risk population such as a weekend backpack program for Bangor School Students, a Hmong Food Package, a food package delivery program for local seniors, and a mobile pantry vehicle that travels to the more rural and food insecure areas throughout the county. WAFER also works to prevent good quality food from reaching the landfill by rescuing product rejected by retailers, warehouses, and more, offers nutrition education programming, and an additional food package giveaway one Saturday each month. The food distributed in food packages comes from three sources; donated, government commodities, and purchases. WAFER must purchase ~$100,000 of food annually in order to offer a complete food package on each request. For every $1 donated WAFER can provide 4 meals.
